I love the smell of fresh linen in the house so I like air fresheners that have a linen fragrance. However, Febreze costs £2.50 a can so it can get quite expensive.
To see if I could save a bit of money, I bought supermarket own-brand air freshener sprays from Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Asda, Tesco and Aldi. I wanted to find out the difference in price and fragrance.
Ultimately, my mission was to discover which was the most long-lasting as that seemed a good way to work out which one offered the best value for money. It's also frustrating when the room smells great for a minute or two and then the aroma is gone.

Febreze Air Freshener Fresh Linen costs £2.50 for 300ml from Tesco, which works out to 83p per 100ml. I sprayed a small amount and it filled the room with fragrance. This uses a natural propellant so it's not an aerosol, which was good.
It's said to fight odour and leave a fresh scent. I had to agree that the aroma smelt fresh and clean rather than a perfume mask. And I only had to spray a small amount to get that freshness. It was the most long lasting, I could still smell it half an hour later. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

Sainsbury's Air Freshener Linen costs £1.75 for 250ml which works out to 70p per 100ml. This had a sharper aroma, not as sweet as Febreze. This is an aerosol dry spray which enables the fragrance to diffuse with 'no wet fall down' and is supposed to improve the performance.
I wasn't so keen on this fragrance, but that was just a personal preference. It only lasted for a couple of minutes. I gave it 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Aldi Scentcerity Linen & Freesia Room Mist costs £1.55 for 250ml, which works out to 62p per 100ml. The fragrance was really similar to Febreze. It filled the air with a freshness that didn't smell like air freshener, it just smelt clean.
It is a dry spray aerosol so not as environmentally friendly as Febreze but it is considerably cheaper. It lasted around five minutes. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because it seemed good value.
Morrisons Cotton Dry Air Freshener costs £2.10 for 250ml, which works out to 84p per 100ml. This dry spray aerosol had a much weaker fragrance than the others. I found I had to stand right in the spot where I'd sprayed in order to smell it.
The fragrance was pleasant but more like perfume than freshness. The aroma was gone within a minute or two. Disappointing. I gave it 1 out of 5 stars, especially as it was one of the more expensive cans.
Tesco Cotton Fresh Air Freshener costs 85p for 300ml, which works out to 28p per 100ml. This is a traditional aerosol air freshener and is a lot cheaper than the others. It smelt great. It was light and not overpowering. This is not one to spray directly onto fabrics, furniture or carpets. The fragrance lasted around five minutes. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.
One air freshener lasted way longer than the others and that was the original Febreze. I also liked the fact that it didn't use an aerosol but was a natural propellant. I had thought the supermarket own brand air fresheners with similar lids would also be natural propellants but that wasn't the case. I felt quite cheated by this - it just shows you have to read the label.
Febreze was more expensive than the others but I only had to use a small amount and it lasted longer than all the others so it probably works out to be similar value. My next favourite was Aldi's room mist as this smelt really similar to Febreze for a fraction of the price.
